To Sony Z1 owners trying to work on Linux,

A few of happy Sony  Z1 owners, like Craig de Forest (sonypidd), Leonardo, Cyril and myself, decided recently to have a special mailing list where only Sony Z1 related things could be discussed. There are other mailing lists like but the hardware is too diverse and not enough specific. So we could try with a more specialized list.

Here below is a list that I got from http://tuxmobil.org/sony.html of people having written a web page describing their implementation of Linux on a Z1.

We think that most distributions are represented and many current kernels too.
Some web pages are up to date, others no because most of us are end users and do not have time to update regularly. But this mailing list could be, among other means, a way to share information, particularly on hardware recognition by future linux kernels and softwares.

For example, there is currently no hope to get suspend to ram (S3/ACPI) working, but other people like Cyril Wattlebled have had a successful experience with swsusp2 (S4 suspend to disk). I recently compiled a recent 2.6.7 cooker (Mandrake) kernel with swsusp2 working almost fine. It also incorporates a recent patch for Alps which makes the touchpad as general as a synaptics (with a standard "auto-dev" protocol for XF86Config instead of a fixed "event" protocol).

If you are interested to join and to attract other people, please subscribe by just sending a mail to   (or linux-sony-z1-unsubscribe for unsubscribing) and after confirmation of your subscription you will be able to post at . Archives are public and could be accessed at http://listes.ined.fr/wws/arc/linux-sony-z1 (email are still not hidden)
But if you have other ideas where this list could be set, tell me. INED (Institut national d'études démographiques) is my research institute (not only focussed on computer sciences!). The server is slow and will change during the summer.

Here is the list with mail addresses and web pages:

I wrote myself a page too (just above).

I hope that some of you,if not all, will subscribe to the list to share information.
I don't know how long the list will last but probably until S3/ACPI will be running!

PS: I you look at the archives there has been a discussion on the time the battery last and you could give your experience too.

Cheers,

Nicolas Brouard (and Craig, Leonardo and Cyril)
