Hi,
you wrote:

Do not use x86 acpi driver, use Enhanced speedstep driver instead.
battery lasted exactly 3 hours on my pcg-z1rmp.
Well, I get around 3.7 hours but actually, I'm using Speedfreqd as the speedstep daemon which gives great results. Powernowd works well also.
the most scaring thing is the temperature of the hard disk that keeps
spinning and heating up...
Well, same here but here is the trick. You have to setup your hdparm to make the drive stop to spin after some time. I use the following :
/sbin/hdparm -d1 -u1 -m16 -c3 -a 16384 -S 241 /dev/hda
This makes the drive to go to sleep if not used for 30 mins, increase the read ahead to 8 mo and setup various things like 32bit i/o, dma on .... This is the most optimized setting I've came up with.
Check the man of hdparm if you want your drive to go to sleep faster (-S option).
I use also the Laptop_mode of the kernel available in the new 2.6.7 kernel and in the -mm patch set for earlier versions.
Install kernel 2.6.7 and read this file for further info :
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/laptop-mode.txt
Have fun !
ciao,ciao =]
