Linux users of Sony Z1 series

Hello,

Yesterday I was trying to watch a film with a 1024x768 projector plugged
to my Z1's VGA output but I was unable to display the whole screen on
the projector. Strangely, if I lowered the X resolution from 1400 to
1024 (the projector's native resolution) with xrandr the projector would
then only display a 640x480 keyhole of the screen. 

Of course I am using the default twin display (LCD + CRT) mode, which is
probably not the right thing to do.

Have you guys been successful in switching from LCD to CRT, maybe with
the Fn+F7 key?

Using: debian unstable + 2.6.9
