Last time I got this problem my swap partition was not correct. Reduce
your RAM to 512Mb, just to give a chance to suspend correctly, but your
swap partition is probably to short even. I have 512Mb of RAM and 800Mb
of swap.
Another try consists in killing X (init 3) to lower the amount of memory
used and verify that the cause is not elsewhere.
