Hi all,
I got two messages (A and B) back from Dmitry telling that his patches
could apply to 2.6.8 or even 2.6.7 probably. As I told him that I was
back to swsusp1 he explains that he had nothing against swsusp2
(excerpts from message B). He added that his sonypi patches might also
solve the non resuming of module sonypi using swsusp1 (and not only
swsusp2) by adding a recent link to a post from someone from HP (so
there are more chances to work on 2.6.9...).Here are the excerpts:
---A-----------------------------------------
...
As far as I know my patches do not rely on any "new" kernel
functionality so if they apply to 2.6.8.1 they shoudl work. But then
again, since I do not have hardware I might as well have screwed it
up ;)
The patches have not been included anywhere - I have not get any reply
from the official maintainer (Stellian Pop) yet. If you apply them I'd
appretiate if you let me know how it goes. Thanks!

I am glad that swsusp code works for you although I do not recalling
recommending "dumping" swsusp2. I just said that swsusp2 was lacking
proper hooks to resume system devices and IIRC Nigel was going to
take care of that, not sure if he did. What I am saying I do not have
anything "against" swsusp2 as I looked at it only once and very briefly.
...
And it looks like swsusp1 is missing the hooks as well:

But for some reason I think it has been fixed in 2.6.9...

Does anyone have a contact with Stelian Pop? He is the maintainer (and
creator) of sonypi.c but I am afraid that he doesn't have a Sony
anymore.
You could think, why should we bother on the non resuming of the sonypi
module if the fix is simply to unload the module before resuming?
The answer is that there is a current effort from many people and some
firms (Intel, HP... but not Sony) to unify the kernel code concerning
modules and suspend/resume.
Since the recent cleaning introduced in 2.6.8 during last summer,
S4/ACPI is now working and quite fast and the unloading of modules do
only concern a few modules (for examples, sound is fixed etc.).
