Most Vaio laptops (my z1 rmp included) don't have an analog sound cable 
from the CD/DVD-ROM to the mainboard.
You have to choose a sound player which can play cds digitally, i.e. 
reading the data tracks of the music digitally. You can use XMMS with 
the cd reader input plugin for example.
